Product Stewardship Alternatives for Beverage Containers

DSM Environmental Services (DSM) recently completed a detailed analysis for the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and the Rhode Island Legislature comparing implementation of an expanded bottle bill with implementation of an alternative system designed to significantly increase recycling in Rhode Island.

This presentation will present the results of DSM’s analysis, outlining the costs and benefits of the alternative systems, who bears the financial burden of managing the recovery of beverage containers under each system, expected recovery rates for beverage containers, and the GHG emission impacts associated with each system.
